I watched Calvary a few nights ago and it stuck with me. It’s a strange, whodunit of sorts that is billed as a black comedy. I didn’t find it to be much of a whodunit or much of a black comedy. I thought it was pretty clear from the beginning who the threat was and other than being set in a town of jerks and oddballs, I didn’t think that there was anything that comical or darkly comical about it.
Not to say that I didn’t enjoy it. I did, well, not enjoy, but liked it, and I do respect the filmmaking and storytelling behind it.
I found it to me a movie about faith, forgiveness and in the end, hope. Although, I wish there were a bit more hope mixed in. It’s a movie that stuck with me for a few days after viewing and one that I’ve thought about since and even though, it wasn’t exactly my cup of tea, I will say that I’ll take 50 more movies like it than one more idiotic Transformers movie.
